Analysis of Miss Havisham

Miss Havisham is a mysterious and hard to figure out character, she has been hurt so she wants everyone to hurt the way she does and lives at the same moment for years and years and hasn’t had the willpower to let go and find happiness around the corner and let herself be happy without the man that treated her badly. To not be completely alone through her days she adopts Estella, as we know, and trains her up to hurt everyone else around Miss Havisham because she cannot do it herself, the story is quite sad really. To me she seems really timid and very paranoid about the world, she is always itching her hands and shaking as if she doesn’t like to speak to many people but has Pip to come round to see her and Estella. I watched the BBC series as I thought it brought out the story much better and clearer for me, but that’s just my opinion. The characters seem more clearer and better to understand and in the film I didn’t really understand the story line or the characters. I find it quite hard to get through a full book so I’ve just looked at short clips of text on the internet from the book to get a decent draft of it. 

The character on the screen- 

Miss Havisham is a very pale and timid character, she aspires Estella to do all of her dirty work and that proves to her to be a mean and spiteful character but she can get some leeway with the audience because of her past so that has obviously had an effect on her. I am really interested to of seen what she was like before she got jolted at the alter and see if she was actually happy as love is a powerful emotions and can embrace all different kind of feelings, you can tell by how someone is feeling by their features and colour of the skin and their personality. So as for Miss Havisham she is pale and looks really quite (not ugly) but not very pleasant to look at, her clothes are all just rags and dirty and the tone of her voice is very quiet and creepy as she doesn’t make much effort. She is careful of what she says and very secretive about how she is feeling and about her current situation and what she wants to overcome in her life… but which is to make everyone miserable just like her.
